There is no uniform but we do insist that you wear smart casual clothes.
If your complaint is about an assessment result, please note that you can only appeal on procedural grounds. Fill in the Review of Assessment Results form and give it to your lecturer or Course Coordinator. If your complaint is about any other aspect of MHE life, please fill in the MHE Student Complaint Lodgement Form and give it to the administrative staff.
Please use the General Feedback Form and give it to the administrative staff.
Please fill in a Student Request form. You may need to pay a fee.
If you still have the original document, this should be submitted to MHE with an explanation of the circumstances of the request for replacement with proof attached. If you are unable to submit the original document, you must complete a statutory declaration stating the circumstances behind the request for replacement and submit it together with any relevant proof.
Graduates living overseas must have a Statutory Declaration completed outside Australia witnessed by an Australian consular official, justice or notary public under the law of their resident country, or any person authorised to witness or administer an oath in their resident country.
You must inform MHE of the change within seven days, whether it happens during a trimester or a break between trimesters. Fill in a Change of Personal Details Form and give it to the administration staff.
Enrolments
Currently, you can only enrol directly to MHE.
There are various types of scholarships available for students, once students start
studying at MHE, such as the Dean’s Merit List and the Dean’s Medal.
All lectures and tutorials are conducted face-to- face at the Burwood campus. Personal study may be done in the Burwood campus or anywhere that is convenient for you.
Fill in an Advanced Standing Application Form. Include it with your application or else give it to the administration staff as soon as possible. Include information about when and where you learned. This may entitle you to credit for some units without having to study them here.
Only full-paying students are welcome to enrol at MHE.
It is not compulsory to have an education agent. However, international students often find it easier to talk to someone in their first language who understands the culture and laws of their home country.

Studying
If you have an ongoing medical problem, bring a medical certificate as soon as you can to the administrators. If it forces you to submit an assessment late or miss an exam, fill in a Special Consideration form, available from the Policies, Procedures and Forms page on our website.
Your lecturer’s and course coordinator’s name and email address are on page three of the Unit Outline. You can see them during the consultation times listed there but it is best to book a time first.
Please contact the Academic Skills Advisor and they will be happy to support you.
The Student Support Officer is available to help you.
This must be approved by MHE. You need to apply for a suspension using the Deferral, Suspension or Withdrawal Application Form. You will be informed of the result in writing.
If you have a student visa, you need to contact the Department of Home Affairs to establish how long you can legally stay in Australia. You may decide to contact an immigration agent and/or enquire about Temporary Residence.
MHE is legally obliged to cancel your Confirmation of Enrolment as soon as possible after you complete your studies.
IT Support
This is strongly recommended. You need to submit all assessments online through the Moodle. All forms are accessible online. Email will be your lecturer’s or tutor’s preferred means of contacting you outside class times.
This is not necessary but sometimes useful. You may type notes on a lecture or write them on paper, whichever is more convenient for you. A tutor may advise you that you need to refer to online resources or use software or apps as part of a lesson. However, you must make sure that you strictly abide by the Student Code of Conduct with your use of tablets, laptops and phones. You must read the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures carefully before your first class and review it often.
If you are on campus, the Librarian or the Academic Skills Advisor should be able to help. If you are elsewhere, email it@monaro.edu.au and ask for help.
You will be given an email address and password when you enrol. As soon as you can, go to www.gmail.com and enter your student email address. Then enter your password. This will give you a page where you can check your email and change your password. You should change your password straight away and check your email regularly while you are enrolled.
The Librarian should be able to help or else contact the IT staff to help you.
Australian Student Life
You may work for up to forty-eight hours per fortnight during trimesters. Remember, however, that MHE cannot accept pressure from your employer as a reason for a late assessment or absenteeism from class. There is no limit to how much you can work in the breaks between trimesters.
Before you can start working in Australia, you must have a Tax File Number from the Australian Taxation Office. The Student Support Officer or administrative staff can help you with that.
There are several banks within a short walking distance of the MHE campus. Most Australian banks have specific services for new arrivals in Australia. They should be happy to help.
In life-threatening emergencies, call 000. There will always be a first aid officer on campus when it is open. The nearest medical centre to the Monaro campus is at 42 Railway Parade, Burwood. You can easily get advice from a GP in any clinic. If it interferes with you studies, ask them for a medical certificate and bring it to the administrators.
