The Bachelor of Business gives you the skills and knowledge to set up and run a business prudently, ethically and sustainably. You will learn to engage successfully with staff to maximize their potential. You will gain a range of skills that let you thrive in a global and dynamic economy.
The Bachelor of Business at MHE focuses on the tools, knowledge and skills which modern managers need. Entry Requirements
Academic or Work Experience Requirements:
One of the following:
- Successful completion of the NSW Higher School Certificate with an ATAR of at least 60, including Mathematics General 2 (or equivalent in any other state or territory of Australia or any other country).
- VET diploma (AQF 5) in a cognate discipline.
- Completion of a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation at any institution (or equivalent) with an ATAR of at least 60.
- Successful completion of a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (or equivalent).
- Being over 21 years of age on the date of the first class and able to demonstrate propensity for tertiary studies through submission of a portfolio and a detailed résumé and/or an interview.
English Requirements
If your previous education was not completed in English, one of the following dated not less than two years before the date of application:
- IELTS 6.0 overall, each macroskill 5.5 or equivalent
- TOEFL (paper based) score of at least 550.
- TOEFL iBT score of at least 70 with macro-skill scores of at least:
- Listening – 11
- Speaking – 16
- Reading – 11
- Writing – 20.
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of at least 50 with no macro-skill score lower than 48.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced English Test level B1, with an overall score of 169 and no macro-skill score less than 162.
- Or any other academic English language proficiency test considered equivalent by MHE.

Course Requirements
You will complete the Bachelor of Business in twelve study blocks full-time or equivalent part-time. This is generally done over three years, with four blocks per year. The fifth and sixth blocks of each year are optional and let you reduce the length of the course to two years.
A full-time study load consists of two units per block. Each unit is worth six credit points. Each unit has four hours per week of lectures and two hours of tutorial per week for six weeks. Each unit should require ten hours per week of study, including time spent in classes. If a unit has a final exam, it will be in the seventh week of the block.
There are no nested courses or exit awards.
To qualify for the Bachelor of Business, students must achieve satisfactory grades in twenty-four units (one hundred and forty-four credit points), consisting of:
- Fourteen compulsory core units (eighty-four credit points), including one discipline-specific capstone project
- One major, consisting of eight units (forty-eight credit points)
- Two unspecified elective units (twelve credit points).
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing means giving you credit for parts of the course you have already learned before you enrol. This learning might have been in education or on-the-job.
When you apply to study with MHE, you may also apply for advanced standing and provide evidence of which parts of the course you already understand. MHE will look at your educational or employment background to decide if you are eligible.
Eligibility for advanced standing in the Bachelor of Business is normally limited to a maximum of twelve units in the first four trimesters. Please see the Advanced Standing Policy and Advanced Standing Procedures for further information.
